Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung NO RADIATION Aqualung. This model was made for radium safe / for civilian use use without radium luminous on the markers, polished stainless steel two piece case is in excellent original condition, automatic signed Blancpain R310 movement, 17 jewels, original tritium dial is in excellent condition and is completely original and very glossy for its age, one of the best condition dials we have seen to date for this reference, patina has aged very nicely and evenly over time, iconic "no radiation" symbol to let users know that non radioactive paint (tritium) was used to add luminosity to the dial, radium was frequently used on earlier Fifty Fathoms examples, original bakelite bezel with minute hash marks is in excellent condition, original dust cover, size 41mm, SN 300xxx, circa 1965, We purchased the watch from an intermediary who purchased the watch from the original Navy officer who sent his watch to Blacpain for verification as well as complete service, plenty of Blancpain documentation including detailed analysis are with the package, the watch also has a picture of the Navy officer wearing the watch as well has official US Navy decommission papers dated from 1965, the original owner also provided the history of his military service but requested his pictures / certificates not be shown online, A very rare Blancpain No Radition example with tremendous military background and also in outstanding original condition. This is a vintage c. 1965 stainless steel Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung No Radiation. It has a composite rubber strap with a steel tang buckle, an acrylic crystal, and a screwed-down solid case back and winding crown. The 41mm diameter case, knurled bi-directional rotating bezel, and downturned lugs are un-polished in excellent condition with the original sharp edges. The graduated black Bakelite bezel has Arabic numeral markers and hash marks for dive times to 60 minutes. The dial is glossy black with Tritium-coated round, baton, and diamond hour markers. There is a center sweep second hand with a luminous arrow tip, and an outer minute/second track. Radium was not used for luminescence on the civilian Fifty Fathoms, hence the No Radiation symbol is at the 6 o'clock position. It's water resistant to 1000 feet, and the 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung No Radiation has a mechanical automatic self-winding Blancpain caliber 12 movement that's signed Blancpain-Rayville SA. It's rhodium plated, and constructed with 53 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance, and a shock-absorber mechanism. It has a self-compensating flat balance spring, an index regulator, and an anti-magnetic cap. In 1952, the French "Nageuers de combat" (combat swimmers) was formed as an elite team - the NAVY Seals of France. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqualung NO RADIATION Aqualung was designed for military use and low light military situations, especially diving. Blanpain used radioactive materials such as Promethium 147 to illuminate the watch dials. To separate the civilian watches from the military that were radioactive, Blancpain moved to using Tritium instead of radium, marked with the triple triangle red and yellow radiation logo beginning in 1965.
